Art in the Underbelly Proudly Presents:
CHRISTOPHER JOYNER
‘Experiments in Expropriation’
Feb 3rd - Feb 28th 2011
...
Opening Night
Thursday Feb 3rd, 8pm until 12am, Free Entry
With live music from BK & Dad + DJ set from Tom L

BK AND DAD HAVE PULLED OUT OF THE SHOW, DEATH OF DEATH OF DISCOTHEQUE WILL BE STANDING IN FOR THEM

For the show Christopher Joyner has been working on a series of work appropriating vintage photographs from the extensive NASA image gallery. Using the found imagery he is liberating himself from any personal experience with the original subject, then through repetitively reproducing the images they experience a mechanical abstraction and in the new context they bear a new meaning. He will be exhibiting several large scale works straight on to the walls forming an installation space for the bands performance as well as a series of smaller framed prints all made from the same appropriated images but mechanically deconstructed.

The Artist will be required to create a public art installation for display at the school, which will also feature on the front cover of the book. This will be followed by a book launch.

The winning artist will devise his/her own working process in relation to the needs of The Art Room/First Story and will receive support from two trained Art Room therapists and a First Story professional throughout the residency.
